Not Controlled By Party Leaders

Many Republicans and Democrats take office with the best intentions, only to find out that they are controlled by the party leadership, after they are elected.  Members of major parties must agree to follow the dictates of their parties legislative caucuses or face ostracism.  Members of these caucuses must also take an oath of secrecy and these secret meetings are exempt from the open meetings act.  Party leadership decides which committees a representative is appointed to, which committees a bill is sent to, and who gets adequate office staff.

In short, they end up representing party leaders, and not the people who elected them.

As a Libertarian, I would not be part of these caucuses, furthermore I would introduce and openly advocate legislation that would remove the exemption of partisan caucuses from the Open Meetings Act.

I want to represent you!
